When Prince and the Revolution released the song “Kiss” in early February 1986, fans celebrated its success as the band’s return to the spotlight. Coming off of the mega-successful Purple Rain, Prince and the Revolution released an album called, Around the World In a Day, which bombed. The song “Kiss” reassured fans that Prince still had it in him to write and perform hit songs.

The song was for Prince’s follow-up to Purple Rain but was marketed separately as a single from a follow-up album after his previous album bombed. Prince went on to more fame and stardom and experimented with interesting name changes like “The Artist Formerly Known as Prince.” When he died of a fentanyl overdose on April 21, 2016, Prince was just 57 years old.
