Any Way You Want It-Journey

December 19, 2022

Most Gen-Xers have heard at least one or two Journey songs. For fifteen years, beginning with the 1978 album Infinity, Journey had one hit after another, with many songs earning iconic status. The song “Any way you Want It” appeared on the 1980 album Departure.

When Steve Perry left the band in 1998, Journey continued performing but never returned to its success in the eighties. They are still around and still performing at select venues.

Fun Facts:

  • The band formed in San Francisco in 1973. Before they were Journey, the band was called The Golden Gate Rhythm Section. They focused on a jazz-fusion sound that gained a small following in the mid-seventies.
  • The band changed its name to Journey at the suggestion of a roadie.
  • Steve Perry, the voice behind some of the eighties’ most popular songs, wasn’t an original member.
  • Journey started fading away from music hits as the band’s recording company considered dropping them.
  • Columbia Records made them change to the popular rock sound like Boston and Foreigner and hired a lead singer. Steve Perry joined Journey in 1977
  • Journey’s fourth album, Infinity (1978), was Perry’s first album as Journey’s lead singer.
  • Evolution was released in 1979 and produced the band’s first Billboard Hot 100 Top 20 single, “Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’,” which peaked at number 16
  • The band’s next two studio albums, Escape (1981) and Frontiers (1983), catapulted Journey to mega-hit recording artists.
  • The songs “Don’t Stop Believing” and “Faithfully” are the two songs most associated with Journey.
  • Steve Perry left the band in 1998 because he didn’t want a hip replacement before finishing their latest tour.
  • “Any Way You Want It” was featured in the 1980 film Caddyshack

Lyrics

Any way you want it

That’s the way you need it

Any way you want it

She loves to laugh

She loves to sing

She does everything

She loves to move

She loves to groove

She loves the lovin’ things

Ooh, all night, all night

Oh, every night

So hold tight, hold tight

Ooh baby, hold tight

Oh, she said

Any way you want it

That’s the way you need it

Any way you want it

She said, any way you want it

That’s the way you need it

Any way you want it

I was alone

I never knew

What good love could do

Ooh, then we touched

Then we sang

About the lovin’ things

Ooh, all night, all night

Oh, every night

So hold tight, hold tight

Ooh baby, hold tight

Oh, she said

Any way you want it

That’s the way you need it

Any way you want it

I said, any way you want it

That’s the way you need it

Any way you want it

She said ohh, hold on, hold on, hold on

Oh, she said any way you want it

That’s the way you need it

Any way you want it

Any way you want it

That’s the way you need it

Any way you want it

She said any way you want it

That’s the way you need it

Any way you want it

Any way you want it

That’s the way you need it

Any way you want it

Any way you want it

That’s the way you need it

Any way you want it

Any way you want it

That’s the way you need it

Any way you want it

Any way you want it

That’s the way you need it

Any way you want it

Any way you want it

That’s the way you need it

Any way you want it

Any way you want it

That’s the way you need it

Any way you want it

Any way you want it

That’s the way you need it
