Pearl Jam – Jeremy (Official 4K Video)
Today’s song of the day is “Jeremy,” a grunge single by Pearl Jam, the American rock band. Here are a few fun facts about the song and Pearl Jam.
Song Facts:
- The song “Jeremy” was inspired by a newspaper article Eddie Vedder read about the story of Jeremy Wade Delle. The newspaper article described how Jeremy Wade Delle, a high school student shot himself in front of his class on January 8, 1991.
- Vedder said that he could relate to the sad story because of his own experience. He described a classmate in 7th grade that “kind of freaked out and brought a gun to class one day.” Thankfully, no one was hurt in this scenario, as he shot a fish tank. Vedder had gotten into a fight with the kid a year before and was impacted greatly by the experience.
- “Jeremy” reached the number 5 spot on the mainstream MRB (Modern Rock Billboard) charts. Because it was not released as a commercial single in the United States, it could not enter the Billboard 100.
- When the song was re-released in July 1995, it ranked #79 on the US charts.
- Jeremy was part of the Ten studio album. This was the first album released by Pearl Jam in 1991.
- Pearl Jam was formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1990. The original band’s lineup consisted of Jeff Ament (playing bass guitar), Stone Gossard (playing rhythm guitar), Mike McCready (playing lead guitar), and Eddie Vedder (lead vocals, guitar). Matt Cameron (playing drums) joined the band in 1998.
- The studio album was the band’s first of all 11 they have produced.
Lyrics
At home drawing pictures
Of mountain tops
With him on top
Lemon yellow sun
Arms raised in a V
And the dead lay in pools of maroon below
Daddy didn’t give attention
Oh, to the fact that mommy didn’t care
King Jeremy the wicked
Oh, ruled his world
Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in class today
Clearly I remember
Pickin’ on the boy
Seemed a harmless little fuck
But we unleashed the lion
Gnashed his teeth and bit the recess lady’s breast
How could I forget
And he hit me with a surprise left
My jaw left hurting
Dropped wide open
Just like the day
Oh, like the day I heard
Daddy didn’t give affection, no
And the boy was something that mommy wouldn’t wear
King Jeremy the wicked
Oh ruled his world
Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in class today
Try to forget this (try to forget this)
Try to erase this (try to erase this)
From the blackboard
Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in
Spoke in
Jeremy spoke in
Spoke in
Jeremy spoke in class today
