• “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” was released by Wham! as a single in the United Kingdom on May 14th, 1984. 
• The song went to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in the US and held the spot for three weeks.
• Even after Wham! had a lot of success, Andrew Ridgeley lived with his parents at home. Because they were on the road most of the time, this was easier than having to maintain an empty house. George and Andrew used to share a room in their home for demos.
• Andrew needed to be woken up, so he left a note for his mother on the door. The note read, “wake me up up.” Upon realizing that he’d duplicated one word, he added “before you go go” to finish the sentence.
• Both George and Michael decided to use it as a song title. This is how the pop song was conceived and became a great American hit.
• The track was produced and composed by George Michael. It is impeccably and tightly constructed. Its bouncy beat and inescapable melody are almost akin to a force of nature, so difficult to resist.
• “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” was certified platinum within the US and, at the time, had sold over two million copies.
