Today’s song of the day is the contemporary hit “Say It” by Voices of Theory. Released in February of 1998, this R&B song became an almost instant hit, reaching as high as #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the same year. It also reached the #17 position on the US Hot R&B Billboard Singles Chart, making it the biggest hit in the band’s history. 

Fun Facts:

• Voices of Theory was formed in the early 1990s and continued performing through the end of the decade.
• The band was heavily influenced by the group Boyz II Men.
• Voices of Theory made its mark by performing urban contemporary music that combined an R&B sound with hip hop.
• The band consists of five men, all of whom are of Latino origin and grew up in North Philadelphia.
• The first major break for Voices of Theory came in 1993 when they were the opening act for Mariah Carey in 12 cities on her tour.
• It was also in 1993 when Voices of Theory performed the soundtrack for the movie Calendar Girl. That song was titled “Why Do Fools Fall in Love?”
• The manager for Voices of Theory was murdered not long after that soundtrack was released, resulting in a major setback for the band.
• In addition to “Say It,” other notable songs from Voices of Theory include “Wherever You Go,” “Somehow,” “It’s Been Awhile,” and “How Can I Say Goodbye.”
