A-ha is the popular Norwegian synth-pop band that released “Take On Me.” Together, Paul Waaktaar-Savoy, Magne Furuholmen and Morten Harket have released 11 albums.
Fun Facts:
- A-ha was formed in Oslo in 1982 by Paul Waaktaar.
- The name A-ha was originally supposed to be for a new song that Paul Waaktaar had written. Morten Harket saw it in Paul’s notebook and knew right away that it should be the name of the band.
- The band released “Take On Me” in 1984 in the album Hunting Low And High, which had ten singles.
- The song was originally titled “Lesson One” and was recorded in 1982. After Terry Slater took over the band in 1983, the song was reworked. But it didn’t become the tun we all know and love until 1984 after reworking yet again with producer Alan Tarney.
- Their music video became one of 5 to reach 1 billion views in 2020. The other songs to hit this milestone were “November Rain,” “Sweet Child of Mine,” “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
- After MTV picked up the song, it hit the US Top 40. It reached the #1 spot in October and stayed there for a week.
- The song reached #2 in the UK.
- “Take On Me” was recorded by Warner Bros, a subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
- The band’s most recent album, True North, was written above the Arctic Circle and released in August 2022.
- A-Ha is in the Guinness Book of World Records. The first is when Morten Harket held a note for over 20 seconds during a live performance. The second is for performing for the highest paying concert audience. They reached this milestone in 2015 during the Rock in Rio festival when they played for 198,000 people.
Lyrics
We’re talking away
I don’t know what
I’m to say
I’ll say it anyway
Today’s another day to find you
Shying away
I’ll be coming for your love, okay?
Take on me (take on me)
Take me on (take on me)
I’ll be gone
In a day or two
So, needless to say
I’m odds and ends
But I’ll be stumbling away
Slowly learning that life is okay
Say after me
It’s no better to be safe than sorry
Take on me (take on me)
Take me on (take on me)
I’ll be gone
In a day or two
Oh, the things that you say, yeah
Is it life or
Just to play my worries away?
You’re all the things I’ve got to remember
You’re shying away
I’ll be coming for you anyway
Take on me (take on me)
Take me on (take on me)
I’ll be gone
In a day
I’ll be gone (take on me, take on me)
In a day (take me on, take on me)
(Take on me, take on me)
(Take me on, take on me)
(Take on me)
