“How Deep Is Your Love” is part of the film Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. The Bee Gees wrote and recorded the song, a request of the British-based film producer and entrepreneur Robert Stigwood.
Fun Facts:
- The Bee Gees sent their newest single, New York Mining Disaster 1941, to radio stations without listing the band on the sleeve or sticker; this was a trick to make everyone believe they were the Beatles, as they had a resemblance. And the gimmick worked, with stations giving it plenty of airplay.
- Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb wrote this track, with Barry working out the melody.
- On 25 December 1977, it topped the Billboard Hot 100, staying in the top 10 for 17 weeks.
- Although Chicago songwriter, Selle, filed a lawsuit in 1983, he couldn’t prove that the Bee Gees had prior access to his material before they released the song.
- During the 20th Grammy Awards in 1978, “How Deep Is Your Love” scooped the Best Pop Performance by a Group Award.
- Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb rose to stardom in the 70s in their teens, but a few years later, they soon had to battle drugs and alcohol addiction, which left them estranged. Tragically, all but Barry Gibbs have since passed on.
- In an incident where Robin set pajamas and billboards on fire using matches, the local Manchester police recommended that they relocate to Australia. And while in the foreign country, they recorded 11 singles before moving back to the United Kingdom in 1967 to seek tremendous success. Once in the UK, they soon learned that their Spicks and Specks album had peaked at No.1 in New Zealand.
Lyrics
I know your eyes in the morning sun
I feel you touch me in the pouring rain
And the moment that you wander far from me
I wanna feel you in my arms again
And you come to me on a summer breeze
Keep me warm in your love
Then you softly leave
And it’s me you need to show
How deep is your love?
How deep is your love?
How deep is your love?
I really mean to learn
‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools
Breakin’ us down
When they all should let us be
We belong to you and me
I believe in you
You know the door to my very soul
You’re the light in my deepest, darkest hour
You’re my saviour when I fall
And you may not think I care for you
When you know down inside
That I really do
And it’s me you need to show
How deep is your love?
How deep is your love
How deep is your love
I really mean to learn
‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools
Breakin’ us down
When they all should let us be
We belong to you and me
And you come to me on a summer breeze
Keep me warm in your love
Then you softly leave
And it’s me you need to show
Da-da-da-da-da
Na-na-na na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na
How deep is your love?
How deep is your love
How deep is your love
I really mean to learn
‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools
Breakin’ us down
When they all should let us be
We belong to you and me
How deep is your love
How deep is your love
I really mean to learn
‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools
Breakin’ us down
When they all should let us be
We belong to you and me
How deep is your love
How deep is your love
I really mean to learn
‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools
Breakin’ us down
When they all should let us be
We belong to you and me
