Joan Jett – I Love Rock ‘N Roll (Official Video)
Today’s song of the day is an American hard rock song, “I Love Rock ‘N Roll,” by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts.
Fun Facts:
- “I Love Rock ‘N Roll” was released by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts as a single in December 1981.
- The track came on the heels of Jett’s previous hit single, “Bad Reputation,” also released in 1981.
- “I Love Rock ‘N Roll” was originally written by songwriters and musicians Alan Merrill and Jake Hooker in the early 1970s. In 1975, London-based rock band The Arrows first recorded and released it as a single.
- The Arrows’ recording enjoyed a positive reception; however, it wasn’t until Joan Jett’s cover that the track truly became a hit.
- To date, “I Love Rock ‘N Roll” is Joan Jett’s most commercially successful hit, reaching the number one spot on Billboard’s Hot 100, becoming one of the top songs for the entire year of 1982, and being certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
- In 2016, “I Love Rock ‘N Roll” by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts was formally inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
- Many artists and musicians have covered the hit over the years, including Britney Spears in May of 2002. Her version was featured in the teen drama Crossroads (2002), which Spears also starred in.
- Joan Jett, now many decades into her music career, is commonly referred to as “the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”
Lyrics:
I saw him dancin’ there by the record machine
I knew he must a been about seventeen
The beat was goin’ strong
Playin’ my favorite song
And I could tell it wouldn’t be long
‘Til he was with me, yeah, me
And I could tell it wouldn’t be long
‘Til he was with me, yeah, me, singin’
I love rock n’ roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby
I love rock n’ roll
So come and take your time and dance with me
Ow
He smiled, so I got up and asked for his name
“That don’t matter”, he said, “’cause it’s all the same”
I said, “Can I take you home where we can be alone?”
And next we were movin’ on
He was with me, yeah, me
Next we were movin’ on
He was with me, yeah, me singin’
I love rock n’ roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby
I love rock n’ roll
So come and take your time and dance with me
Ow
Said, “Can I take you home where we can be alone?”
Next we were movin’ on
He was with me, yeah, me
And we’ll be movin’ on
And singin’ that same old song
Yeah, with me, singin’
I love rock n’ roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby
I love rock n’ roll
So come and take your time and dance with me
I love rock n’ roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby
I love rock n’ roll
So come and take your time and dance with
I love rock n’ roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby
I love rock n’ roll
So come and take your time and dance with
I love rock n’ roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby
I love rock n’ roll
So come and take your time and dance with
I love rock n’ roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby
I love rock n’ roll
So come and take your time and dance with me
