All My Loving – The Beatles

February 26, 2022

Today’s song of the day is an English pop-rock song, “All My Loving,” by The Beatles.

Fun Facts:

  • The song was featured on the group’s second UK album, With the Beatles.
  • “All My Loving” was actually never released as a single in the United States or the United Kingdom. It was released as a single in Canada, a decision prompted by its growing popularity, and from there topped the US and UK airwaves.
  • The song was featured on Billboard’s Hot 100 in 1964.
  • The lyrics were written by Paul McCartney and formally credited to “Lennon–McCartney,” the songwriting super duo.
  • Interestingly enough, McCartney thought of the lyrics while he was shaving. He said in an interview he initially thought of them as lines of a poem, only later adding music to create a song.
  • “All My Loving” was recorded on July 30, 1963, and released on November 22, 1963.
  • The song was produced by George Martin.
  • Due to Martin’s close musical relationship with The Beatles—having played an integral role in producing all of their original albums—he’s often affectionately referred to as “the fifth Beatle.”
  • In February 1964, the group played “All My Loving” as the opening song for their debut performance on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Lyrics:

(Musixmatch)

Close your eyes and I’ll kiss you

Tomorrow I’ll miss you

Remember I’ll always be true

And then while I’m away, I’ll write home every day

And I’ll send all my loving to you

I’ll pretend that I’m kissing the lips I am missing

And hope that my dreams will come true

And then while I’m away, I’ll write home every day

And I’ll send all my loving to you

All my loving I will send to you

All my loving

Darling, I’ll be true

Close your eyes and I’ll kiss you

Tomorrow I’ll miss you

Remember I’ll always be true

And then while I’m away, I’ll write home every day

And I’ll send all my loving to you

All my loving I will send to you

All my loving

Darling, I’ll be true

All my loving

All my loving

Ooh

All my loving I will send to you
