December 23, 2021

“I Don’t Want To Set The World On Fire” by the band The Ink Spots is a well-known jazz song from 1941.

  • This song was originally supposed to be part of the Fallout Movie Intro. Due to licensing issues, it was replaced by “Maybe,” a song also written by the Ink Spots. The song was going to play as the prisoner was using an escape pod to blast off into space as a nuclear bomb was seen on earth’s surface. However, this song is used in some of the Fallout games.
  • “Hey Doc!” Is on the flip side of this track and was produced by Decca Records
  • “I Don’t Want To Set The World on Fire” was written by Bennie Benjamin, Eddie Durham, Eddie Seiler, and Sol Marcus.
  • This song was widely popular with its anti-war message after the Pearl Harbor attack in December 1941
  • This song was recorded from July 25, 1941, to August 21, 1941.
  • The band stopped performing and recording in 1954. With the band name never being copywritten, other bands and performers have used this same name over time.
  • The Ink Spots were well-liked by both the black and white community due to their opening ballets. In 1999 this band was introduced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
  • The Ink Spots originally formed in 1930 in Indianapolis.
  • Billy Kenny, the lead singer, is also known as Mr.Ink Spot. It’s said that his voice is the reason for their fame.

Lyrics:

(Musixmatch)

I don’t want to set the world on fire

I just want to start a flame in your heart

In my heart I have but one desire

And that one is you

No other will do

I’ve lost all ambition for worldly acclaim

I just want to be the one you love

And with your admission that you feel the same

I’ll have reached the goal I’m dreaming of

Believe me

I don’t want to set the world on fire

I just want to start a flame in your heart

I don’t want to set the world on fire honey

I love you too much

I just want to start a great big flame

Down in your heart

You see, way down inside of me

Darlin’ I have only one desire

And that one desire is you

And I know, nobody else ain’t gonna do

I’ve lost all ambition for worldly acclaim

I just want to be the one you love

And with your admission that you feel the same

I’ll have reached the goal I’m dreaming of

Believe me

I don’t want to set the world on fire

I just want to start a flame in your heart
