Today’s song “Itty Bitty Pretty One” is by Thurston Harris. You can’t help but dance to this one!

Fun Facts

  • Amusingly, the version of “Little Bitty Pretty One” that popularized the song was a cover. For those who are curious, the first version of the song was recorded by Bobby Day, a rock and roll as well as R&B singer whose career started up in 1950 and continued until 1990. It is interesting to note that Day’s version was still remembered to some extent in more recent decades. For instance, it was used in the 1995 movie Matilda.
  • In any case, the one who popularized “Little Bitty Pretty One” was Thurston Harris, a singer who is best remembered because of this song. After all, his version of the song reached the number six position on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, with the result that it went on to see use in a wide range of both movies and TV shows. Besides this, Harris did have a second hit, which was “Do What You Did” a year later.
  • Harris’s former band, The Sharps, were the ones who provided backing vocals. Some people might be more familiar with them as The Rivingtons because that is the name that they went by when they had their hit “Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow” in 1962.
