Today’s song is “Besame Mucho” will make you want to kiss your partner!
Fun Facts
- Written in the 1940s, “Besame Mucho” (Kiss Me Lots), was originally a Mexican song that turned into being one of the most popular songs back in the 40s when Jimmy Dorsey got on the record and made a duet out of it with Bob Eberly and Kitty Kallen.
- Jimmy Dorsey and his orchestra were jazz music masterminds behind creating songs, with many talents using different musical instruments from the saxophone to the clarinet. In today’s modern world, he would best be compared to Calvin Harris; he composes music then gets singers to feature on his songs.
- Although this song was first recorded by Consuelo Velázquez in Spanish, it did not get any recognition until Jimmy Dorsey made his version of the song. Creating it as a duet had its benefits with Bob Eberly starting the song off strong and Kitty Kallen in the second verse of the song speeding up the tempo, giving the song a livelier feel to it.
- Many other artists (even The Beatles) hopped on the popular trend of covering the original song and giving it their own personal twist to it. However, not one of those remakes came close to the level of success the Jimmy Dorsey band reached.
- “Besame Mucho” made #1 for 7 weeks straight on The Billboard Best Selling Retail Records in 1944. It remained on the charts for another 23 weeks after that. This is the only Mexican song to have hit #1 on the national pop charts in the United States.
Lyrics
Bésame, bésame mucho
Each time I cling to your kiss, I hear music divine
Bésame mucho
Hold me my darling and say that you’ll always be mine
This joy is something new
My arms enfolding you
Never knew this thrill before
Whoever thought I’d be
Holding you close to me
Whispering “It’s you I adore”
Dearest one
If you should leave me
Each little dream would take wing, and my life would be through
Bésame mucho
Love me forever and make all my dreams come true
Bésame, bésame mucho
Each time I cling to your kiss, I hear music divine
Bésame mucho
Hold me my darling and say that you’ll always be mine
This joy is something new
My arms enfolding you
Never knew this thrill before
Whoever thought I’d be
Holding you close to me
Whispering “It’s you I adore”
My dearest one
If you should leave me
Each little dream would take wing, and my life would be through
Bésame mucho
Love me forever and say that you’ll always be mine
