• Founded by Robert “Kool” Ronald Bell and Bellin in Jersey, New Jersey in 1964, with the addition of Robert “Spike” Mickens, Rick West, Dennis “D.T.” Thomas, Georges Brown, and Charles Smith, Kool & the Gang became one of the most successful American rock bands of the 1960’s. They have undergone a number of personal changes and experienced a number of musical styles throughout their history, including funk, jazz, pop, soul, and rock. After several name changes, the band finally decided on Kool and the Gang and signed their debut album, Kool and the Gang, to De-Lite Records (1969).
• “Get Down on It” by Kool & the Gang is a 1981 American rock band song. It was first released in 1981 on their Something Special album. The single was RIAA Gold certified.
• In early 1982, the song reached the top ten on Billboard’s US Pop and R&B charts. In December 1981, it entered the UK chart and at that time it reached number three, its largest charting hit in the UK. It spent 12 weeks on the UK playlist in total. After ten years, it was published on the UK charts on the Mercury label but only one week (at number 69).
• “Get Down on It” was recorded and released as the third single from the second studio album, Natural, made by the English-Australian singer Peter Andre. The only one is from the group Past to Present, which reached No. 5 in Australia, and No. 1 in New Zealand, and in April 1996, achieved Platinum status.
• In 1999, Canada-3Deep U.S.’s boy band recorded their debut album, Yes Yes Yes…No No, featuring Canadian hip hop artist Michie Mee’s guest vocals.
• My Morning Jacket covered the song during their Bonnaroo 2008 midnight set. There was a lot of special coverage at the concert, including “Hit It and Quit It” and “Across 110th Street.”
